27 Candidates File Nominations In Mumbai North East Constituency Amidst ‘Power Display’!

The candidates for the Lok Sabha Election 2019 contesting from the Mumbai North East constituency filed their nominations amidst a display of strength and the customary pomp and spectacle. The prominent stalwarts are Manoj Kotak, the candidate of the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and Sanjay Dina Patil, the candidate representing the NCP and Congress alliance. Overall, 33 candidates, including a transgender, have filed their nominations at the Mulund (E) Election Office of which 5 have been rejected and one nomination has been withdrawn.

It may be noted that, both the major parties viz. BJP-Shiv Sena and NCP-Congress alliance filed their nomination forms on different days to avoid a clash. While going to file the nomination forms, both the parties left no stone unturned to display their might and show their confidence at winning the polls.

BJP candidate Manoj Kotak filled his nomination on Monday with dazzling road show highlighting the party’s power and buoyancy. His rally started from Ambaji Dham and concluded at the Election Office in Mulund (E). The procession witnessed a spectacular exhibit of dhol and tasha with thousands of BJP activists attending the rally to make it more grand and spectacular.

To add glitter and make its ‘strength’ look even more formidable, the rally was attended by heavyweight BJP comrades including senior BJP leader and Minister for Housing, Prakash Mehta, Education Minister Vinod Tawde, MLA Ram Kadam, Kirit Somaiya (MP) and all the BJP corporators from Mulund. Besides BJP, the procession also had leaders of BJP’s alliance partner, the Shiv Sena, joining the rally. Among the top leaders who attended the rally were Liladhar Dake (senior Shiv Sena leader and former cabinet minister in the Government of Maharashtra), MLA Sunil Raut and Ramesh Korgaonkar. In addition, to attract the people’s attention, the procession had few cartoons and muskets, too!! Manoj Kotak eventually filed his nomination at 2 pm the same day.

After Manoj Kotak, on Tuesday, Sanjay Dina Patil of NCP-Congress alliance reached the Election Office to file his nomination. Like the BJP-Shiv Sena, the NCP- Congress alliance, too, displayed its power by organising an equally power-packed rally. The rally moved from Sambhaji Park Garden, Gavanpada, Hanuman Chowk and reached the Election Office. The prominent personalities who accompanied Sanjay Dina Patil were Sachin Ahir,  Bhaskar Vichare and Nawab Malik. The top leaders from Congress who also joined the rally included Milind Deora (Mumbai President of Congress), Charan Singh Sapra, etc.

Transgender, too, contests election
Truly, the election mania has gripped even the transgender community. Jatin Rangrao Harne, popularly known as Jatin Maharaj, a transgender, is contesting as an independent candidate. Jatin is from the Jogta community. He filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North East constituency on Tuesday stating he is fighting to give social status to the deprived sections of society. Another transgender, Sneha Kale, is contesting the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from the North-Central constituency. The transgender candidates told that in every constituency there are over 40,000 transgenders but, alas, the government does not look into their grievances. Hence, to give them justice, these 2 transgenders have jumped into the election fray.

5 candidates’ name cancelled
Names of 5 candidates were declared illegitimate by the Election Commissioner and were thus cancelled. All these five are independent candidates. The names of the candidates cancelled are 1) Prakash Gopal Jadhav, 2) Nandkumar Birbal Singh, 3) Adv. Santosh Kussappa Shetty, 4) Gazala Banu Mohd. Arif Shaikh and Devendra Ramchandra Joshi.
