Absolutely Horrendous! DOWRY CLAIMS BHANDUP LADY!!

The celebration of Women’s Day in India has gained tremendous popularity with even the lower middle-class males celebrating the Day and pleasing her wives! But, the shocking truth is that, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), every day in India as many as 21 women commit suicide due to dowry harassments!!! The second reason for suicide is, shamefully, for not bearing a son!!

Incidentally, Bhandup resident, Suvita Shailesh Sawant, was the victim of both dowry harassment and not bearing a son! Hence, unable to bear the constant taunts and abuses of the in-laws, helpless Suvita jumped in front of a local train at Bhandup station and committed suicide in utter frustration!  Isn’t it absolutely horrendous??

According to reports, Suvita and Shailesh Sawant had a love marriage in 2003. The duo worked in an hospital. Soon, they got attracted to each other and fell in love. Fortunately, their family agreed to their love and both tied the nuptial knot. After marriage, Suvita started a Kindergarten at Ganesh Nagar in Bhandup and got engaged in educating kids.

Life was fine and both Suvita and Shailesh were enjoying married life until Suvita delivered her first child – a girl and that, too, disabled! Instead of comforting Suvita, her in-laws were disappointed and soon minor quarrels began in the family which turned into taunts and abuses after Suvita delivered her second child –once again a girl!

Irritated at Suvita not bearing a son, her ill-laws began harassing her daily over dowry. Besides abuses, the in-laws even physically assaulted her and forced her to bring dowry! Distressed over the daily harassments and mental agony, on March, 15, Friday, Suvita committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving local train.

Interestingly, before taking the extreme step, Suvita recorded an audio clip narrating the ordeal of her physical and mental trauma at the hands of her in-laws to her family through Whatsapp. Unfortunately, the mother and brother got the WhatsApp late!

However, on grounds of the WhatsApp clip, Bhandup police have arrested the husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law under the Dowry Prohibition Act u/s 498 (a), 34, 306, 323, 504 and 427 respectively.
