Amazing skill of ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’; Design Unique Software that Prevents Accidents!!

Ashrin Raorane, a Mulund resident and a student of Mumbai’s D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, has made Mulund proud as her team – Thugs of Hindostan – has won the First Prize at Smart India Hackathon, 2019 for designing an inimitable software that prevents an accident while driving any vehicle!!! In an event held at Bangalore, her team won a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh and an Appreciation Certificate.

Initiated by the HRD Ministry (MHRD) the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) organized a nation-wide Software Product Development Competition called Smart India Hackathon, 2019. The objective of the event was to give a platform to budding software engineers to invent innovate softwares that could solve some of the pressing problems of the country. In this innovative event, Team Thugs of Hindostan from D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering won wide acclaim for their inventive software that prevents accidents!! It may be noted the competition was witnessed many major companies in India that posed more than 300 various problems of India and asked the students to make suitable software to seek excellent solutions.

The 6-member team of Thugs of Hindostan consisted of Ashrin Raorane, Hitashu Rami, Pooja Jha, Shruti Ravichandaran, Dishant Shah and Shane Fernandez, all final-year students of D.J. Sanghvi College of Engineering succeeded in winning the hearts of the judges. Ashrin Raorane, who designed the software with assistance from her group told Home Times that the software was designed under the guidance of her teachers, Tushar Sawant and Pratik Kanani.

Ashrin Raorane informed Home Times, “We had made the project under the caption – Driver Alertness Detection. Under this, more than 1000, projects were made across India, but just 4 were selected. The groups had to present their projects within 36 hours, but our team presented the software project in just 24 hours!!”

Informing about her project, Ashrin explained, “We had installed 2 cameras and software in the vehicle. The highlight of our project was that if a driver, erroneously, jumped into another lane then automatically an alarm in the vehicle will alert him. In addition, the driver will get the information on the screen installed in the vehicle.” Informing about the other feature of the software, Ashrin said, “In many cases, at night due to excessive tiredness many drivers doze off and this results in an accident. Hence, our software has an alarm that automatically starts blaring if driver dozes off even for just 2 seconds.”

Giving details of some other options, Ashrin said, “If a driver is angrily driving a car, then the software has an in-built telephone number that will ring and a relative or friend will appear on the screen and urge the driver to drive carefully. Further, if a person is drunk and tries to drive, then the software mechanically jams the car and it cannot be driven!”
