ANOTHER TREE-FALL THREAT; BMC IGNORES!!!

Since the past few years, there has been a steady increase in pedestrian deaths owing to sudden tree falls. In fact, last year, a person lost his life in Mulund when a tree branch fell from a height of nearly 35 feet on his moving auto rickshaw on Guru Govind Singh Road in Mulund Colony. In addition, many people lost their lives at Dadar, Thane, etc. The list is long. However, despite such a large number of deaths due to improper trimming of branches by the BMC, the civic body has been turning a blind eye towards tree health and citizens’ safety. A similar threat is posing danger to the people walking down the footpath in Mulund West near St. Pius Colony.

Informing Home Times about two trees posing threat to the lives of people, a resident living at St. Pius Colony said, “Behind St. Pius School, two tall trees have overgrown in the compound of Paradise Housing Society. These two trees have grown so tall that both have bent towards the footpath. Thus, they have become dangerous for people walking on the footpath. Even the motorists here are driving in a state of fear.

Hence, we have made several complaints to the  BMC Tree Department, but in vain.” Giving details of their complaint, he said, “We have submitted a written letter to the Tree Dept. to trim the trees but, tragically, despite 2 months having elapsed, BMC has not given any reply.”
Another resident lamented, “Due to BMC ignoring our letter, the BMC Tree Dept. officials are refusing to trim the trees. They maintain until BMC issues them orders they cannot trim any tree, however dangerous it is for human life!” Irked at the BMC, the resident said, “It seems the BMC is waiting for an accident to occur. Until a person dies due to a tree fall, the callous BMC will not trim the trees!”

Home Times hopes BMC takes the grievance of the people seriously and acts immediately before an innocent life is lost!!!
