BEST BUS COLLIDES WITH WALL; DRIVER & CONDUCTOR HURT
A BEST bus was involved in an accident at Khindipada Complex in Bhandup on Saturday morning owing to brake failure. Fortunately, there were no passengers in the bus at the material time, hence a major calamity was averted. However, both the bus driver and conductor sustained injuries in this freak mishap.
It seems that the BEST bus bearing registration No. MH 01 LA6964 was heading to Bhandup railway station from Khindipada in Bhandup complex at around 8 a.m. when suddenly the brakes failed. In order to avert any injury to human life, the alert bus driver rammed the bus in the safety wall constructed on the opposite side. It would have been a major calamity had the safety wall not been in place. The driver, Krishnat Ramchandra Nikam and the conductor, Maruti Dattu Gurav were injured and the vehicle was badly damaged in the mishap. As it is, the BEST staff are disgruntled and disappointed with late salaries and, to top it all, buses are made to ply from the depots without any repairs or checking. This has led to much dis-satisfaction amongst the BEST staff. A police complaint has been registered at Mulund police station in this regard. Further investigations are underway.
