Bhandup’s Dangerous FOB Shut for Public; To be demolished soon!

The FOB (Foot Over Bridge) near Bhandup railway station in the direction towards Thane side was in a dilapidated condition. It was a death trap for the commuters walking over it. However, the Railways administration had turned a Nelson’s Eye to it. But, after the tragic collapse of the CST Himalaya FOB, Home Times in its daily TV News Channel, had highlighted the dismal condition of the Bhandup FOB and demanded of the railway authorities to act fast before tragedy struck.  Eventually, taking a cue from Home Times News, the railway administration has declared the FOB unsafe for public and has closed the FOB for the commuters!

With the closure of the FOB, the commuters have heaved a sigh of relief. A regular commuter using the the bridge said, “The bridge is over 50 years old. It is good that the authorities have finally woken up from their slumber and shut the bridge. The bridge was completely decayed and in ruins. It was dangerous, hence the BMC had constructed a new FOB, but many people risked their lives and commuted on the old bridge. But now as the government has closed the bridge, people’s lives would be saved.”

It may be noted after the CST Himalaya FOB crash, Home Times Team had inspected all the bridges in Mulund East and West and Bhandup. We had highlighted the pathetic condition of the Bhandup Bridge.

It may be noted that after the construction of the new FOB, the railway authorities just made tall claims to demolish the old bridge, but they never took the issue seriously. However, after the CST Himalaya FOB collapse, the government sounded the bugle to pull down all dangerous bridges. Among the list of dangerous bridges was the same Bhandup bridge but still, the railway authorities were not quick to respond to the government’s announcement!

It was only after Home Times depicted the deplorable condition of the Bhandup FOB on Home Times TV Channel that the railway authorities woke up from their slumber and conducted a hush-hush meeting. According to latest reports, the railway authorities have decided to demolish the dangerous bridge soon and before it is pulled down the Railways has declared the FOB unsafe and shut it for public use!!!
