BMC Negligence Costs Mulund Lady Rs. 3 lacs!

Last week, Home Times exposed the negligence of BMC in its story titled,” An Easy ‘Death Trap’ at LBS Marg in Mulund”, where an open electric DP Box is posing a threat to the lives of Mulundkars. Likewise, several Mumbaikars lose their precious lives either due to pothole, tree fall or electrocution tragedies and, of course, due to broken FOBs! This week, again, Home Times exposes how, due to the negligence of BMC, a lady fractured her leg due to inferior quality of materials used and a broken lid over a gutter!! The lady not only sustained serious injuries, but the family had to spend a whopping Rs. 3 lacs on medication and surgery!!!

The unfortunate incident happened in Mulund West, near Sejal Apartments on Devidayal Road. Close to Sejal Apartments is a footpath and underneath it is a gutter. On April 3, 2019, around 8 pm, Meena Shah (40) was walking on the footpath when suddenly her leg got entangled in the broken lid of the gutter and she sustained serious injuries. Informing Home Times, Meena Shah said, “I regularly visit the Jain temple for pooja. On Wednesday night, I was returning home from the temple when tragedy struck. The accident was so brutal that my doctors told me that a major bone near my thigh has been badly damaged and needed surgery. I have been advised complete bed rest for a long period.”

She lamented, “The accident has proved quite expensive for our family as Rs. 3 lacs have been spent on operation and medicines. Hence, I make an earnest appeal to BMC to stop playing with the lives of people and use quality material so that nobody faces a similar accident like me in the future.”

This is not just an isolated instance when innocent Mulundkars have fallen into gutters and drains, but there are many gutters and drains in Mulund that do not have proper lids and, due to the pure negligence of BMC, innocent pedestrians have injured themselves!

Despite Home Times’ exposures, BMC T-Ward has still not awakened from its deep slumber!! Recently, in Mulund, BMC has made many new footpaths, but Mulundkars claim the material used is of inferior quality. As a result, these lid covers soon get damaged and become death traps for pedestrians!!
