BMC Online Complaints Against Hawkers An Eyewash!

The hawkers’ menace has become a niggling problem for Mumbai. Each day, the number of hawkers on the roads is increasing. There is no place for pedestrians to walk and plying vehicles is a headache! Hence, to make the city free from hawkers’ menace the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated an online facility to register complaints against illegal hawkers. However, Home Times, in its ‘reality check’ has regrettably noticed that while people are making complaints online, tragically there is very little action by the BMC staff against the illegal hawkers!!

It may be noted, to help citizens register a complaint against illegal hawkers the BMC has made an online complaint facility. Citizens can download the application on their Android mobiles and then upload pictures of illegal hawkers against whom they wish to complain.

However, Home Times received several complaints from our readers complaining that they have lodged complaints, but BMC has not taken any action.

To check the authenticity of the complaints, Home Times decided to conduct a ‘reality check’. Hence, Home Times correspondents visited RRT Road and the premises outside Mulund West railway station. Both these places are infamous for hawkers’ menace. We clicked pictures and uploaded them on the BMC website! We have lodged these complaints on Tuesday, December 2, 2019, but to date, no action has been taken by the BMC administration. The hawkers are doing flourishing business outside Mulund station and RRT Road!!

This proves beyond doubt that the BMC App of online complaints against the hawkers is merely an eyewash!
