BMC T-Ward Celebrates ‘World Health Day’

Each year, on April 7, WHO (World Health Organization) organises ‘World Health Day’ to create health awareness globally. Each year, a theme is selected that highlights a priority area of public health. This year, the theme of World Health Day 2019 is ‘Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere, Health For All.’  In tune with World Health Day, BMC T-Ward, too, conducted several health awareness programmes to keep Mulundkars fit and healthy.

According to BMC T-Ward Health Officer, Mahendra Singhnapurkar, Mulund T-Ward organised a Health Drive from April 7 to April 20 to reach maximum people. In its first programme, T-Ward organized a Health Talk Show on communicable diseases like Flu, Malaria, T.B., etc and non-communicable diseases like Diabetes, Heart ailments, Cancer, etc. These Talk Shows were held at the 7 Health units of T-Ward.
In addition, pregnant ladies were informed about the importance of Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana at the Maternity Home in Mulund. Besides, ladies were guided on the multiple issues related to motherhood, like the significance of breast-feeding newborn babies, the importance of diet, personal hygiene and care, family planning and vaccinations.

BMC T-Ward also organised the ‘Healthy Baby’ contest at Mulund’s Civil Maternity Home in association with the Lions Club of Thane. The contest witnessed the complete health check-up of babies from the age of 9 months to 3 years.  The contest examined the diet plan of the babies and also scrutinized the knowledge of mothers regarding vaccinations and the diets of their kids. The contest awarded prizes to the ‘Best Healthy Babies’ and also felicitated their mothers. All the parents and guardians who took part in the contest were presented a health kit.

The prominent personalities who played a key role in making the ‘Healthy Baby’ contest a great success were BMC T-Ward Health Officer, Mahendra Singhnapurkar, Community Development Officer, Rahul Hivare, Public Health Nurse (PHN) Sehal More, Trupti Nagarkar (Eastern Bureau PHN), Maternity Home In-charge Dr. Vaishali Nanaware, Pediatrician Dr. Zoya Patil as also others who supported the event ably.

BMC T-Ward Health Officer, Mahendra Singhnapurkar informed Home Times, “The Health Drives on World Health Day are being held continuously and shall continue till April 20. Some of the events are also on the dreaded HIV (AIDS) awareness. In addition to health, BMC T-Ward is also educating the Mulundkars about the importance of voting and getting a ‘Pledge Letter to Vote’ signed from them.”
