BMC T-Ward Collects Rs 3.60 Lakh fine on new parking policy!

Despite anger and despair by Mumbaikars against the exorbitant parking penalty imposed by the BMC, the RTO is strict with errant motorists violating traffic norms. According to reports, from July 7 till now, the RTO in T-Ward has penalised 45 two-wheelers owners, 33 four-wheelers owners, and 1 three-wheeler owner. In short, following its new rule to penalise vehicles parked in No Parking zones, BMC T-Ward has levied penalty on 79 vehicle owners. The total fine collected is Rs. 3.60 lacs.

Though BMC and RTO continue their ‘dadagiri’, angry Mumbaikars as well as Mulundkars are protesting and are urging the government to first open all the parking lots in Mulund and later implement fines. But the government is paying no heed.

The BMC initiated implementing the new traffic penalty system in Mumbai from July 7, 2019, under which the civic body has introduced hefty fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 23,000. However, there is stiff opposition against the exorbitant penalties in Mumbai. Even in Mulund motorists are up in arms and are demanding to first make sufficient arrangements of parking lots by inaugurating all the parking lots so that people have the facility to park their vehicles.

In Mulund, there are 5 parking zones. On LBS Marg, there are 3 parking zones viz. Runwal Green, Nirmal lifestyle and Runwal Anthurium. Out of these three, the parking lot at Nirmal lifestyle is lying closed! The parking zone at Vikas Plaza on J.N. Road is generally packed with vehicles as it is a free parking zone. The parking zone near Mulund East Railway station is only available for two-wheeler parking. Thus, Mulundkars are in a tight spot. They complain, in the absence of adequate parking zones where do they park their vehicles?

Rajendra Patil, an angry Mulundkar annoyed at the bossism of BMC, lambasted, “Until and unless BMC provides sufficient parking space for Mumbaikars, the imposition of hefty fines is utterly unjustified!” He added, “The BMC must first open all the parking zones and provide enough parking zones in Mumbai and, later, if anybody violates parking rules then applying penalty is fine. Besides, the penalty is also too exorbitant. It must be reduced.”
