BMC’s Shoddy Road Work Exposed!

Cracks Develop In Mulund (E)

Dirty politics and poor civic governance are robbing Mumbai city of quality infrastructure. Collapsing FOBs, resurfacing of potholes within a week of the renovation of the road and bad roads have made life miserable for the poor Mumbaikar. Incidentally, it is the same Mumbaikar who pays a heavy tax to BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) making it the richest civic body in Asia. Alas, despite such mammoth wealth, the poor Mumbaikar, in return, gets just pothole-filled roads and crumbling infrastructure!!

Hereunder, Home Times exposes BMC’s shoddy road work in Mulund East. According to reports, BMC is on the verge of completing the new road connecting Tata Colony to Shamshan Bhoomi in Mulund East. This 18-metre road is being constructed at a great pace. However, the residents of the area are disappointed and furious at the poor quality of the work being done.

Commenting on a portion of the road completed, the local resident’s complaint that the road is not even one month old, but the surface has started peeling off. An angry resident told Home Times, “The road is made of cement and concrete, hence it is expected to be durable and robust but, alas, within one month of its construction, cracks have started to appear on the road, thus exposing the poor quality of material used in the construction!” “Besides, the road is neither even nor smooth like the usual cement-concrete roads. It is bumpy and commuting on the road is quite irksome.”

Angry residents claim that even the concrete applied on the road is peeling off! Thus, the citizens can realize what will be the plight of this new road during the coming monsoon?

Agitated at the loot of Mumbaikar’s hard earned tax money, Sagar Devre, President of Prayas Sevabhavi Sanstha, has registerd a complaint about the pathetic quality of road work at the Central Agency. Sagar Devre, in his complaint, mentioned that due to the poor quality of road work, it is expected that in future it would deteriorate further. Hence, it would be wise to inspect the work in its initial stages and avoid the waste of public money.

When Home Times quizzed BMC on the poor quality of road work, instead of expressing concern or taking action on the ‘cheat’ contractor, a BMC official shamefully said, “The road is in its final stage of completion. Soon, we would inspect and get the depleted portion repaired!!!” Thus, BMC has clearly declined any action against the contractor though residents have demanded action against the corrupt contractor.

Attacking BMC, a senior citizen said, “BMC always protects such corrupt and tainted contractors and has a nexus with them. This is the reason why FOBs crash, potholes resurface and new roads are in a deplorable condition within months of construction. Innocent Mumbaikars are killed and several are injured, but the callous BMC takes no action against such contractors! Until BMC punishes such contractors and corrupt BMC officials are suspended from BMC, a Mumbaikar’s life will never be safe!!”
