CELEBRATE WOMEN’S DAY ALL THE YEAR ROUND

Each Year, on March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated with enthusiasm and splendour. While the ladies around the world are lauded for their contribution to the universe, on this day men, too, are seen adoring their sweet-hearts, sisters and mothers. Shops are packed with men trying to woo their ladies by purchasing items of their ladylove’s choice. On-line shopping on the internet also makes hay on this day. Cinema halls and hotels are brimming with couples making merry. Though it is a great sight to witness the world adoring the ladies on Women’s Day, but it is surprising to witness the same world adopting an ‘indifferent’ attitude to ladies on the rest of the days in the year!!

Thus, Women’s Day is nothing but hypocrisy! The bitter truth is that Women’s Day has become an instrument to mint money by the business sector and the reality is that even in this 21st century when the world is progressing by leaps and bounds, the plight of ladies in the sub-continent, particularly in India, is still appalling. In real life, if a woman is seen riding on great heights of success, the male chauvinist leaves no stone unturned to pull her down. At every available opportunity, ladies are humiliated and degraded. They are sexually exploited, raped and killed so mercilessly as if they are beasts! What is shocking is that all these things are happening in India in the 21st century when women in the European countries are walking proudly shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts!!

Thus, the women of India today do not want adulation for a single day on Women’s Day. Instead, Indian women are hungry for admiration and esteem. Today, when Indian women are educated and skilled, society must acknowledge their achievements and give them a platform so that they could display their prowess. They want the male society to recognize their capabilities and involve them in matters of the male domain and trust their competence.

In a nutshell, on Women’s Day, Home Times appeals thus: Let’s pledge to admire our ladies for their knowledge and skill and revere them not just on a single day, but all 365 days of the year as the lady is the true jewel of the house.
