Chhath Puja celebrated with splendour in Mulund

Devotees dressed in colourful attire with baskets full of offerings converged at seashores and the banks of rivers in Mumbai and across India to celebrate Chhath Puja. The festival is dedicated to the Sun (Surya) and his sister Shashti Devi to honour them for their blessings on Earth. In Mulund, the scene at Morya Talao was akin to a carnival as devotees from Mulund, Bhandup, Thane and the adjoining suburbs celebrated the festival with pomp and spectacle.

The Chhath Puja is a three-day feast. On the last day, devotees take a dip in any body of water and offer prayers to the rising and setting sun. Devotees perform puja to seek blessings from the Sun God (Surya) to live long, be healthy and prosper all through life.

In Mulund, the Chhath Puja Samiti celebrated the festival with traditional splendour and enthusiasm at Morya Talao in Mulund East. The event was organised by Manish Tiwari, President of Chhath Puja Samiti, under the guidance of Manoj Kotak, MP, Mumbai North East. Informing about the celebration, Manish Tiwari said, “The Chhath Puja Samiti has been organizing Chhath Puja for the past 9 years at Morya Talao in Mulund East. Like each year this year, too, thousands of devotees congregated at Morya Talao and celebrated the Chhath Puja Mahotsav with customary rituals on a grand scale.”

Taking into consideration a large turnout of devotees at Morya Talao, the BMC T-Ward and the Mulund Police did a commendable job. The civic administration had made elaborate arrangements including mobile toilets. A huge police force was deployed to thwart any untoward incident.

To enhance the festive mood, the organisers had even organised cultural events and invited Bhojpuri singers! Political leaders from various parties attended the event to enhance their vote banks!
