Choron Ki Baaraat Reaches Mulund (W)

5 Shops Looted In a Single Week!! Mulund: Last week, Home Times had highlighted how there is a spike in robbery cases in Mulund. Despite Home Times’ alert, instead of robbery cases being curbed, shockingly, there is a surge in robbery cases. Besides cases of house break-ins and thefts of vehicles, the robbers have now begun targeting shops!!  Shamefully, in a single week, 5 shops have been looted in Mulund West!! This has created panic and chaos among Mulundkars!!

According to information available, the first shop targeted was Oswal Grocery Shop located at Ganesh Gawde Road, Mulund West. The burglars looted the shop in the wee hours at 4.30 a.m. They broke the shutters and escaped with a booty of Rs 25,000/- in cash and other items worth Rs 15,000/-! The shop owner reported the theft to the police in the morning after he was left stunned to discover his shop looted.

Astonishingly, the same night, Sumit Travels, a Travel agency located at N.S. Rd, Mulund West, was also ransacked.  The thieves adopted the same modus operandi of breaking the shutter and decamping with Rs 15000/- to 16000/- from the cash counter. Besides looting Sumit Travels, the thieves also looted the adjoining  Nakoda Lights on the same road and escaped with Rs 12,000/- cash!!! In addition, the thieves even attempted to rob a medical store but failed to recover cash or other items.

The CCTV images from the area revealed that 2 thieves came on a motorbike and carried out the crime. But, surprisingly, except the Oswal shop owner, none of the shop owners reported the theft to the police. Besides shop break-ins, last week witnessed a spike in vehicle thefts. A resident of Mulund Colony in Mulund West reported the theft of his Hero Honda bike.

Annoyed at the spike in theft cases, Dharmesh Shah told Home Times, “There has been a sudden rise in theft cases in Mulund. People are living in terror and nobody is feeling safe. The thieves have become so daring that they are fearlessly committing thefts in broad daylight without any fear of the police. If the police do not lay their hands on these notorious elements, they could become even more daring. It is high time the police increase their patrolling and create a sense of fear amongst the criminals.”

“We have increased patrolling and are planning to install more CCTV cameras to curb thefts in Mulund.” Ravi Sardesai, Senior Police Inspector of Mulund.

When Home Times expressed its concern over the rise in crime in Mulund, the Senior Police Inspector of Mulund, Ravi Sardesai, said, “It is generally observed that during the festival season there is a rise in crime. In the recent theft cases, we have noticed that the criminals have targeted areas that are dimly lit and are in isolation. Hence, we appeal to citizens to keep their places well-lit. Besides, we urge citizens to register all theft cases with the police. Since many people do not report thefts, these notorious elements gain confidence.”

Assuring Mulundkars of vigilant police administration, Desai said, “Mulundkars may not fear as we have increased patrolling and are planning to install more CCTV cameras to curb thefts in Mulund.”
