DECAYED TREE OVER DP BOX : ANOTHER MISHAP IN THE MAKING??

Mulund: In the year 2018, Mumbai witnessed the maximum number of deaths and grave accidents due to tree falls. Despite people outcry and media outburst, BMC did not take the issue seriously. In Mulund also, many deaths were reported due to tree falls. After Home Times’ criticism, BMC started trimming dangerous branches but, like always, the trimming of trees was just an eyewash, as even today Mulund has some trees which are a major threat to human life.

One such dangerous tree on the verge of collapse is located on J.N. Road near Mehul Cinema. A local tea vendor told Home Times, “The tree is in a pathetic condition and can collapse any moment. Yet, despite several complaints, BMC has looked the other side” He added, “Earlier, the tree was blooming, but concretization and placement of paver blocks around the tree has had an adverse effect on the health of the tree and it has started decaying.  What is more dangerous is that, right beneath the tree, is an electric D.P. Box, hence the danger has become even more grave.”

Shailesh Awasthi, a regular commuter on this road told Home Times, “J.N. Road is the most vital road connecting Mulund railway station. Hence, the road is frequented by thousands of people. Therefore, if the tree falls over the DP box then it could cause a major disaster to human life. BMC T-Ward must give priority to such grave issues.”

Ironically, when Home Times took up the issue with concerned BMC T-Ward department, they informed that just a month back the officials had inspected the area! It is, indeed, shocking that despite visiting the area, the inept BMC staff did not witness such a dangerous tree!!!

Home Times hopes BMC T-Ward’s Garden Department will promptly swing into action and do the needful.
