Despite Availability Of Parking Lots, Errant Mulund Motorists Not Following Traffic Norms!

Despite the RTO cracking huge penalties for illegal parking, yet the adamant Mumbaikars are not reforming! A picture of unruly parking by miscreants can be seen in Mulund. Though BMC has provided several parking lots in Mulund but, shamefully, still the errant motorists care a damn for the law and park their vehicles haphazardly as per their convenience!! As a result of this unruly parking, Mulund is congested and is facing traffic menace.

Readers would be aware, last week Home Times had published a report on how an errant motorist had indulged in a row with an RTO cop at Jata Shanker Road in Mulund over illegal parking. In order to avoid traffic congestion on the road from Mulund station to Jata Shankar Dosa Road, the traffic police have strictly prohibited illegal parking of vehicles on the road. To deter errant motorists from parking their vehicles illegally on this road, the RTO has Tansa cycle track still incomplete; BMC announces a further extension to Thane! Mulundkars Nahi Sudhrenge! Despite Availability Of Parking Lots, Errant Mulund Motorists Not Following Traffic Norms! Briefing the media, Pravin Darade, Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC, said that the cycle track will be a boon for tourists and environment enthusiasts. Besides, BMC will also remove encroachments along the pipeline. To enhance the beauty of the cycle track, BMC would be painting the walls in both directions with thought-provoking drawings based on water conservation. The BMC is in talks with prominent art colleges from Mumbai who would be assigned the job of paintings. To complete the dream project, BMC would be hiring a top-class professional consultant and has declared to complete the cycle track project in 3 years. Giving more information about the newly-proposed extension of the cycle track, Darade said the cycle track will connect BMC’s guest house located near Modak Sagar Lake. It may be noted BMC had earlier this month, announced its plan to open Tansa, Modak Sagar and Vihar lakes to the public. Besides, the BMC guest houses will also be rented to the public hence BMC plans to connect the cycle track with the guest houses.

This decision will boost tourism and give a push to the local economy of villages around these dams. Commenting on the project, Dharmesh Mishra, a Mulund resident and a social activist, told Home Times, “The idea of extending the cycle track to Thane is laudable, but the problem is that the first phase of the cycle work is still not complete. It is being carried out so slowly that cyclists are angry.” He rued, “The maintenance of the completed 5-km distance is pathetic. The paintings on the walls along the footpath are tattered. Many a time the streets light are non-functional and this gives the notorious elements an opportunity to make merry during darkness. Hence, BMC must first complete the 36-km stretch and then plan for the 70-km track!” ordered their officials to penalize offenders.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, an RTO cop was conducting the routine check on illegally parked vehicles when an ugly spat erupted between a stupid motorist and the cop. The cop caught the motorist red-handed parking his vehicle in the ‘No Parking’ zone, but the motorist denied paying the penalty claiming the BMC had not erected a ‘No Parking’ signboard! The cop, in his defence, argued that the BMC has opened many parking lots in Mulund like Runwall Mall on LBS Marg, J.N. Road, Marathon Parking Zone near Nirmal Lifestyle and Runwall Greens. He also informed the motorist that the High Court has strictly warned motorists against parking illegally on any roadside but he kept arguing.

Illegal Parking on every road in Mulund To decongest Mulund from the traffic menace, the RTO has prohibited vehicle parking at important roads and outside parking zones. BMC has opened 4 parking lots in Mulund viz. Runwall Mall on LBS Marg, J.N. Road, Nirmal Lifestyle on Marathon Road and Runwall Greens.

However, despite the availability of these parking lots, most motorists do not park inside the parking lots. They avoid parking lots and, instead, park on the roads as per their convenience and this results in traffic mess and disorder. The illegal parking also results in unnecessary chaos outside hospitals and schools.

Speaking to Home Times, Mulund RTO senior Inspector Vijay Bhaise said, “Due to a few errant motorists, Mulund is facing traffic menace but the RTO is doing its best to smoothen the traffic menace in Mulund. Curbing illegal parking is our priority. Let me assure Mulundkars through Home Times that the RTO has decided to be strict on errant motorists, hence we urge motorists to follow norms or face RTO’s ire.”
