Dirty Water Spilling On Road From Malabar Hill

People living in lower region decry BMC and Corporator’s laxity

Dirty water is being drained from the drainage lines of a few houses located at Malabar Hill. Due to this, people living in the lower region are facing problems. They are complaining of dirty water accumulating in front of their houses, posing a threat to their health. Senior citizens also complain that due to the sludge forming outside their houses, they are literally under ‘house arrest’.

Champa Narayan Das Kursija, an angry resident, told Home Times, “We have made several complaints at BMC T-Ward and the local corporator, but each one has turned a deaf ear to our woes.” Moaning over the civic administration and the area corporator’s laxity, she told Home Times, “People living at Malabar Hill have huge gardens and these people dry their clothes in these gardens. As a result, water drained from the wet clothes comes down on the roads and gets accumulated in the potholes there. Water filled in potholes causes great hardship to the residents and adversely affects their health.”

He added, “Beside water-filled potholes, the kachcha premises near our houses develop sludge and it becomes nightmarish to walk out of our houses. We have given a written complaint to the BMC T-Ward several times, but in vain. The BMC officials just keep us on tenterhooks. They have been assuring us that engineers will come from Ghatkopar to solve the issue, but till now it is just bogus and nothing concrete.”
She further informed Home Times, “Many people in this region are senior citizens, but due to the sludge outside their houses they are literally under ‘house arrest’. They cannot move out of their houses to inhale fresh air. Secondly, the accumulated water is a breeding ground of mosquitoes. Hence, many people in the area are being afflicted with Dengue. However, it is tragic that neither the BMC nor the local corporator is ready to come to our rescue.
