Dog and Cat become victims of MSEDCL Negligence!

Two innocent animals, cat and dog became the victims of MSEDCL negligence when they were electrocuted to death in Mulund East. The ill-fated accident happened when, due to MSEDCL negligence, the current accidentally started flowing in the wall fencing of a safety wall opposite Umiya Tower, behind Chintamani Deshmukh Garden in Mulund East. Unfortunately, the fence wire was dangling down towards the ground. Unaware of the danger, a cat and dog came in its contact and died!

Interestingly, the negligence of MSEDCL in the death of the cat and the dog has been established! A local resident told Home Times that the lazy MSEDCL staff, instead of affixing a street light cable wire permanently, had temporarily affixed it to the safety wall using an ordinary adhesive tape! Due to heavy rains, the adhesive tape peeled off, hence the cable began dangling and it accidentally electrocuted the fence of the safety wall. Since a portion of the fence wire was hanging down, it trapped the dog and the cat!

Home Times bitterly condemns the laxity of MSEDCL because the newspaper has been highlighting the negligence of MSEDCL since the past many months. In fact, in our recent issue of August 8, 2019, Home Times had carried a full-page news report titled, “MSEDCL Negligence Exposed” and depicted various pictures of poor maintenance of street lights, open DP Boxes and naked live wires dangling dangerously in the open around Mulund! Despite Home Times’ warning about the threat in advance, it is highly deplorable that MSEDCL did not act sincerely nor took precautionary measures to avoid such accidents.

According to reports, the accident was first observed by resident Suryakant Kori. He was passing through the lane when he saw a cat trapped in a wire. When Kori tried to pull out the cat, he sustained a severe shock! He realized that the cat has died due to electrocution, hence he tried to alert the residents. Before Kori could inform the people, regrettably a dog too got electrocuted. The residents tried to pull out the dog from the grip of the wire with the help of a wooden stick, but in vain. Soon, the residents called the MSEDCL officials. The officials on reaching the site checked the street light and slashed the wire carrying the current.

While the MSEDCL did not express any grief many animal lovers have been disappointed by the death of innocent animals. Gurusharan Bedi, an animal lover was deeply hurt by the tragic death of the animals. Speaking to Home Times, Bedi informed, “I have been staying here since the past 12 years. During these years I have been close to dogs and cats. I have been feeding as many as 38 dogs and 15 cats. Hence, the regrettable death due to MSEDCL negligence has shattered me.”

Mourning the death of the animals, Ms. Bedi said, “As usual, I had fed the animals and was back home when suddenly I got a phone informing the death of a cat and dog due to electrocution. I was horrified!” She informed, “Close to the safety wall is a garbage dump where residents and young children usually come to throw filth. Imagine what would have happened if any human life would have been lost in the tragedy?” She added, “Thankfully, the death of the animals has alerted them! Thus it would not be an exaggeration to comment that the animals sacrificed their lives to save human beings!!”
