Eliminate Examination Phobia

The term ‘Exam’, in itself, is a fear factor and, what is worse, is that ‘Board Examination’ has become so terrifying that many students get jitters one month before the examinations. In fact, the reason behind the fright is the growing competition which has made it more terrifying. To rub salt to the wound, the pressure of parents and peers to live up to their expectations magnifies the stress and tension among the students. The result – many students who cannot handle stress either commit suicide or end up nervous wrecks during the examinations.

The phobia of the examination has, today, become so grave that many students at a young age are committing suicide and this is a cause for alarm. We should change the education system and abolish the fear of examinations amongst the students. Besides the decaying education system, it is even the duty of the parents to instill in children the confidence to face examinations and give them the freedom to study on their own. When students are at ease they study better and perform well but, alas, in India parents do not trust their children and continuously keep a hawk’s eye on them. This not only frustrates them, but also kills their concentration, thus hampering their overall performance in the examination.

Therefore, parents must avoid the dirty habit of being watchdogs. They should also not load the children with over-expectation and never compare their children with their long distance relative’s success or a close friend of their child. It hurts them the most. Also, parents should not indulge in quarrels over studies or personal matters. During examination time, parents should create a happy atmosphere at home and trust their children.

Instead of scolding their children and repeatedly hovering over them 24 X 7, parents must spend quality time with them. Particularly during exam time, it is recommended that parents must fulfill the wishes of their children, keep them motivated, infuse confidence by narrating to them inspiring stories and, last but not the least, leave the students alone and let them study as per their desire.

Remember, trust is the greatest bond that connects any relation and develops love and affection. Home Times wishes ‘Best Of Luck’ to all the HSC students and prays for their success.
