FINALLY, RTO CRACKS THE WHIP ON ILLEGAL PARKING

Mulund: In a massive crackdown against vehicles parked illegally between Sonapur Junction and Pannalal Compound on the busy LBS Marg,  RTO removed as many 100 vehicles and penalised each owner Rs, 200! According to sources, this has been the biggest crackdown in the past 40 years! The citizens are delighted and have applauded RTO for its great achievement against illegal parking that caused traffic jams!

Elated at the action against illegal parking, a commuter said, “LBS Marg is already marred by the Metro work and, to add insult to injury, illegal vehicles by the side of the road added to traffic woes. However, I am happy that RTO has taken stringent action. I hope this action shall now reduce traffic jams.”

It may be noted that due to Metro 4 work between Ghatkopar to Thane Kasarvadavali, the traffic on LBS Marg is badly hit. To add to this, the illegal parking by trucks, tempos and heavy vehicles occupying a major part of the road between Sonapur junction and Pannalal Compound made the traffic even worse. In addition, even freight vehicles are parked on this stretch of the road since the past few years. However, due to the unions of these vehicle owners, nobody dared to voice any protest against this illegal parking. Finally, goaded by umpteen complaints of commuters regarding the traffic jams between Sonapur Junction and Pannalal Compound, RTO tightened its belt and, in a massive crackdown, removed more than 100 vehicles from the road!!!

Speaking to Home Times, Mulund PI (RTO) Sharad Ovhal said, “This is a great success of the traffic police. Due to the increase in the number of vehicles and traffic jams people faced great hardship commuting on the road. Hence  we undertook this massive crackdown so that it gives a major relief to commuters on the road.”

Ram Milan Gupta, a delighted commuter, told Home Times, “After years of patiently waiting,  RTO has finally rewarded us. With the removal of so many illegal vehicles parked on the road, we will have smooth driving.” A shop owner, Sandeep Jain, heaving a sigh of relief said,  “I have my shop on this road, but due to illegal parking of heavy vehicles my business was badly affected. But, I hope now my shop will have a good business.”

While the citizens and commuters celebrated the RTO crackdown on illegal parking, when Home Times asked a tempo owner who parked his vehicle on the road, he lamented, “We had been parking our tempo on this road for the past several years. The RTO crackdown has killed our business. We urge RTO to give us alternate space to park our vehicles.”
