IGNITED & ‘SPARKED’!!

Amongst thunderous applause, the second successful edition of SPARKZ 2019 concluded on Jan 19, 2019, in the premises of St. Mary’s Convent School, Mulund West. SPARKZ is an inter-school debate competition initiated and organised by SMAART, St. Mary’s Ex-Students Association.

This year, 9 of Mulund’s finest schools including Sharon English School, Vani Vidyalaya, VPM, St. Pius X High School, St. George High School, Omega Cambridge English School, Sau Laxmibai, Nav Bharat Nutan Vidyalay and St Mary’s battled it out to win the coveted SPARKZ trophy.

Four students of grades 6, 7 and 8 from each of the nine schools, had to debate their way through the preliminary round to enter the grand finale. While VPM School retained the winning trophy for the second time in a row, St Mary’s bagged the Runners- up trophy this year. It was a hard-fought battle between girls and boys. St Pius emerged as the second Runners-up.

The topics of the finale round, ‘Man is a slave to technology’ and ‘Should schools introduce open-book exams?’ saw interesting opposing view-points.

Ms. Raizel D’souza of St. Mary’s clinched the title for the Best Argument and the Best Presentation of the Day. The ‘Star Debater’ award was bagged by Master Rushil Shah of Sharon English High School. Master Nakul Jadhav of St. Pius X High School was adjudged ‘Runners-up Star Debater’.

This year, too, SPARKZ had a panel of highly renowned judges – the very experienced corporate trainer, Mr Arun Chitlangia, financial services maverick and leadership trainer, Mr Muralidharan Rajamani and art researcher and curator, Ms. Supriya Menon.

SMAART pulled off another successful event and are rearing to go for SPARKZ 2020 which they promise will be bigger and better.
