It’s NOTA for PMC Bank Depositors!!

The Maharashtra Assembly Civic Polls witnessed the fury of the depositors of the PMC Bank scam. In Mulund Colony, several hundred angry depositors were seen displaying placards screaming ‘No Money, No Vote’! Moreover, some furious depositors boycotted the polls by pressing the NOTA button to register their frustration and anger.

Readers may remember that ever since Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC) went bankrupt after the discovery of a major scam, some people in Mulund Colony have died due to heart attack or committed suicide. There is strong anger and resentment among the people for the past couple of weeks but, still, the government has not taken the issue gravely. Hence, to hammer their protest more decisively, the depositors collectively decided to boycott the polls.

A resident, Boni Lal, told Home Times, “There are about 1,500 depositors whose hard-earned money is locked. Dis-heartened by the RBI’s stern attitude, some depositors have lost their lives. It is a pity that we cannot withdraw our own money for our medical treatment. We had begged of several political parties to support us in our time of crisis and help us out from this mess, but no political party came to our rescue. Hence, frustrated by the lukewarm support from the political parties, we decided to press the NOTA button.”

Annoyed at the government’s laxity to solve the PMC Bank ghotala, another irritated depositor, Ghanshyam Tandon, said, “The PMC Bank scam has ruined our Diwali festival. Hence, we are disappointed and have decided to press NOTA so that the government pays heed to our grievance.” “It is true voting is our right, but protesting against injustice is also our right. This time, we used NOTA to express our protest,” fumed Chandrasingh Khera.
