LONG-ANTICIPATED LINK ROAD NOT USED FREQUENTLY

Public still unaware of this stretch

Though one month has elapsed since the long-awaited (read 25 years) link road joining S. N. Road and Suresh Barku Patil Road (formerly ACC Road) has come into being, it seems the Mulund’s public at large is still ignorant of this development. This link road was proposed to reduce Mulund’s perpetual traffic problems as also alleviate the woes of Mulundkars and Thanekars. Though this stretch has been thrown open to the public since quite some time now, it is not being frequented much by the public.

This link road from Tambe Nagar at S. N. Road to S. B. Patil Road has been one of Mulund’s prestigious projects. The proposal for this project had been hanging fire since a long time owing to the presence of a portion of a Muslim cemetery blocking a portion of the proposed link road, which gave a religious hue to the whole thing. It was hoped that the link road would considerably solve commuting woes in Mulund, especially at S.B. Patil Road, Tambe Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Dumping Road and Station Road. However, very few Mulundkars and Thanekars except those staying in the vicinity are aware of this stretch. Speaking to Home Times, a resident, Sanu Shaikh, said, ” To bring this project to fruition many obstacles had to be overcome, and a lot of religious sentiment had to be overlooked in the interest of all concerned.

Though this is the most positive step taken by the authorities, many Mulundkars are unaware of this development and are not making much use of this facility. Feels like the entire effort and sacrifice of so many years has gone down the drain.”
