Every year, for the past 14 years, the Foundation has been selecting people from across the world for this expedition, to build leaders who will embrace a sustainable life and impact changes in their families, friends, communities, their countries at large. Participants from 27 countries took part in the expedition. In an exclusive interview with Home Times, Krutika Jain shares her experience.

Home Times: What was the procedure of selection for the Arctic expedition?
Krutika Jain: Each year, polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles, conducts an informative expedition to the Arctic on global warming under his ‘2041′ Foundation. To participate in this expedition, millions of enthusiasts have to undergo an essay competition and interview. This year, 86 people had been selected from 27 countries and I was one fortunate candidate. This was the greatest moment of pride in my life and for my country.

Home Times: What was the cost and who managed the finance for your expedition?
Krutika Jain: The cost of the expedition was 20,000 American dollars. I am obliged to OYO Hotels and Homes that helped with a substantial amount for the journey.

Home Times: When was the expedition held? Share your experience.
Krutika Jain: The expedition was held from June 15 to 28 . It was a thrilling experience. The expedition was arranged first time in Antarctica.  The event was held at Svalbard 600 mile away from Antarctica.

Home Times: What was taught during the expeditions?
Krutika Jain: We were taught about the effects of global warming at the Arctic and Antarctic. We discussed the effects of global warming on humans and animals living in these regions, effects on the jungles of the region, etc. Plus, we also had a discussion on global warming in the countries from the participants who came from various countries. We also did trekking and had fun.

Home Times: What was the strange thing you observed during the expedition?
Krutika Jain: Though the human population is quite less at the Arctic, yet I was surprised to find the presence of plastic items at the shores of the sea. The presence of plastic is ruining our Mother Earth. It is having devastating effects on sea animals.

Home Times: What was the most important thing you learnt in your expedition?
Krutika Jain: The expedition was not just a thrilling experience, but it was an eye-opener. After the expedition, I could analysis the number of challenges which we will have to face in the coming future.

Home Times: What are your future plans?
Krutika Jain: I would be using the knowledge that I have gained during my expedition in controlling global warming in India and the world around.
