MULUND COLONY IN A MESS!!!

On the one hand, Mulund is called the ‘Prince of Suburbs’ while a visit to Mulund Colony displays the dark side of Mulund! The streets are filled with mountains of filth emanating stink, the lanes are dirty with drainage water overflowing and immeasurable litter scattered all around the area. In short, it would not be wrong to state that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has ‘literally’ gone for a toss at Mulund Colony! The place is an ugly scar on the so-called ‘Prince of Suburbs’ status awarded to Mulund!

While the country has been toiling hard for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the bitter truth is that at New Rahul Nagar, located behind Mulund Darshan Building in Mulund Colony, is a place which is an empire of filth and muck for the past 12 years. Yes, 12 years!! Surprisingly, New Rahul Nagar has seen no revolution called Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The place is packed with tons of garbage, nullahs filled with muck, heaps of debris all around and 2 khataras (auto rickshaws) lying abandoned.

The residents of New Rahul Nagar told Home Times that they have written several letters to BMC T-Ward but, tragically, the civic body has given a deaf ear to their woes. A local resident, Dudharam Jogadand told Home Times, “We are fed by the empire of this filth but, alas, each time the contractors, corporators and even the employees of the Slum Adoption Team deceive us by showing rosy dreams. Nobody lives up to their promises. Hence, since the past 12 years, the problem of cleanliness is lying unattended.”

Home Times, in its reality check observed that not just New Rahul Nagar but even Shalimar Pada, a nearby area was a sight of dirt and pollution. Garbage overflowing from dustbins and filthy water flowing out from debris has become a nuisance for the local residents. Residents of Shalimar Pada, too, echoed their sob story. A similar repulsive sight was observed outside Late Shri Mohanlal Bidi Chandani Chowk opposite the pious Sri Guru Nanak Sachkhand Darbar. One can witness heaps of garbage lying right in the center of the Chowk. Home Times witnessed neither there is a BMC dustbin nor BMC employees come to clean the spot!!

Revathi Manohar, a local resident, said, “I have been watching the empire of uncleanness in Mulund Colony since past many years. Due to this uncleanness, there is fear of diseases spreading. Hence, it is the responsibility of BMC to take urgent steps and not only clean the area but also create awareness for cleanliness. In addition, it is also the moral duty of the residents to maintain cleanliness and keep the surrounding neat and tidy.

With the bugle of Lok Sabha election already sounded, Home Times believes even Swachh Mulund Abhiyan can be a good agenda to win votes!
