Mulund Railway Station to get 2 Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines!

In a bid to give a boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s war against single-use plastic, the Central Railway has decided to install 35 bottle crushing machines at more than 18 railway stations across Mumbai. Two such machines will also be installed at Mulund Railway station. Commuters can dump their empty plastic bottles into these crushing machines. This will not only re-cycle and re-use the bottles, but will also keep the railway station premises clean and tidy.

According to Central Railway, the machines are a part of the Railways sanitation drive that can protect the environment and make proper use of plastic. A railway official said, “Generally, on long distance trains, it is noticed that most commuters purchase plastic water bottles in huge quantities and dump them on railway platforms, railway tracks and train compartments in equal number. Hence, to get ‘effectively’ rid of this bottle disposal menace, the Railways has installed bottle crushing machines and the results are rewarding.”

In Mumbai, the Central Railway has installed several such machines on platform Nos. 13 and 14. These machines have played a significant role in solving the plastic bottle menace. Encouraged by the huge success of these crushing machines at Mumbai CST, the Central Railway has decided to install plastic crushing machines at additional 17 railway stations on the Central Railway route, including Mulund.

Informing about the crushing machine at Mulund railway station, G.D. Baranwal, the Mulund Railway Station Master, told Home Times, “It is true that the railway authorities have decided to install two crushing machines at Mulund railway station. However, the railway officials plan to begin with a single machine on platform No.1 He added, “The railway officials have done the survey. The machine will be placed outside the T.C. Office on platform number one.”  “The machine may be installed within 2 to 3 months,” he confirmed.
