Mulund Rly Station or Druggies Den?

A month ago, Mulund railway station won the prestigious ‘Cleanliness Award’ by the government for being a clean and tidy railway station among the 42 railway stations on the Central Railway. The award was instituted by BMC under its Swachh Survekshan Survey, 2019. There was much jubilation and Mulundkars were elated. But, alas, the joy has been short-lived as Home Times has unearthed an ugly picture of Mulund station that probably robs Mulund station of its so-called ‘Cleanliness Award’!!

Recently, Home Times team conducted a reality check of the cleanliness at Mulund station and was left astonished to discover alcoholics and drug addicts crowding Mulund railway station!  Besides, druggies and alcoholics, the station has become a den of anti-social elements like grimy beggars, notorious thugs, nasty pick-pockets and the like.

Irked by the presence of such anti-socials, a commuter told Home Times, “Already the commuters are annoyed by the nuisance of illegal hawkers near the railway station. The presences of these druggies and beggars have added to our woes and it is impossible to even stand for a few minutes at the railway station.”

A lady commuter, irritated by the presence of these druggies and beggars, said, “These druggies under intoxication are so unconscious that they can be seen lying anywhere on the platform. But, due to their presence, it becomes difficult for passengers to enter and exit the local trains. Particularly, the ladies are petrified by these ugly and weird-looking druggies.”

Readers may recall, a few months back, a man was caught bathing in a ladies toilet. In addition, a video of a lady had gone viral.  After such horrible instances, the Mulund railway authority had increased security but, yet again, there is a lapse in the security as the druggies can be seen freely roaming around Mulund station. These druggies are not only a threat to the ladies, but even other passengers are not safe. It seems the druggies have lost the fear of the RPF and GRP police.

Thus, the presence of these ‘dirty’ druggies, alcoholics and beggars who are present all through the time at the railway station has put a big question mark on the ‘Cleanliness Award’ of Mulund station. In addition, the presence of these goons has raised an even bigger question on the safety and security of commuters and passengers at Mulund station!!
