Mulund Trees Rid Of Nails and Mirrors!

Mulund: Home Times, in its last week’s issue, joined the mass movement of environmentalists and tree enthusiasts in Mumbai to save trees by carrying the story,” Home Times Calls Mulundkars To Stand Up For Their Green Lungs!”

Interestingly, Home Times‘ story has touched the heart of the Garden Department of BMC T-Ward and they have pledged to protect Mulund Trees! In the first step towards protecting the trees, the BMC T-Ward has removed all the safety convex mirrors and the painful nails from the trees at ACC Road opposite the City of Joy complex in Mulund West.

It is a scientifically proven fact that trees are living organisms and, as living creatures, experience pain on being hurt. Trees also suffer the agony when they are brutally killed in the name of so-called development. According to a Tree Expert, “A study of trees has revealed that trees have feelings and when nails are hammered on their bark and trunk, their veins weaken which affects the process of photosynthesis. Thus, trees gradually turn grey and fall!”

However, it is a tragedy that in Mumbai many small scale businessmen shamelessly use trees as a means of advertisement. These selfish people have no qualms about damaging healthy trees by putting up posters and banners advertising their services. To add to insult to injury, the invention of Safety Convex Mirrors is another hazard to trees. Though these mirrors are useful for preventing accidents as they help motorists to see around blind and hidden corners of the road, fixing these on tree trunks is injurious to trees.

Home Times has been highlighting the hazards of Safety Convex Mirrors on tree trunks and removal of posters/ banners/ sign-boards, etc. since the past many months. But, better late than never, BMC T-Ward has finally awakened from its slumber and removed all the iron nails along with banners and posters from the trees on ACC Road. The Garden Department has also liberated the trees from the burden of Safety Convex Mirrors!!

Speaking to Home Times, an official from the BMC T-Ward Garden Department said, “We have removed all the banners and posters from the trees at ACC Road. We have also removed Safety Convex Mirrors as they posed a threat to the lives of trees.” He added, “After taking action at ACC Road, we would be removing such illegal banners and Safety Convex Mirrors from all the tress in every area in Mulund.”

Home Times fervently appeals to citizens to promptly report to the concerned department if they come across any banners, nails or lighting on the trees which may adversely affect their growth and demand stern action against the culprits.
