MULUNDKARS A DISTRESSED LOT!!

Footpaths are essentially constructed by the civic body for the pedestrians to walk but, tragically, in Mulund major footpaths are rapidly being encroached by hawkers and some by illegal parking of autos and two-wheelers. A similar sight can be seen opposite Kamakshi Apartments on Goshala Road in Mulund West.

Goshala Road near Ramgad slums connects P.K. Road and J.N. Road. Hence, it is a vital road used by many commuters and motorists but, alas, the footpaths on both sides of the road are encroached by illegal auto drivers, hawkers and garage owners. This uncontrolled illegal encroachment has drastically shrunk the road. The tragedy is that the road has virtually no space to walk!!!  In addition, even motorists have a hard time to commute!!!

Grieving over the pathetic condition of the footpaths, a senior citizen said, “We have been complaining to  both BMC and RTO but, alas, neither BMC has taken our woes seriously and taken action against illegal hawkers and garages nor RTO has come forward to rescue us from illegal parking by the auto drivers.”

He added, “Besides encroachment by hawkers and illegal parking, the road is also congested with innumerable Khataras (scrapped vehicles) standing outside garages unnecessarily occupying a large part of the road.”

“The road is also intruded upon by the fisherwomen who sell fish and litter the place. Thus, there is a foul smell emanating from here. In short, the road is polluted by dust, foul smell of fish and garbage dumped by the roadside by the local slum dwellers,” he moaned.

Local residents claim they have made several complaints and now, through Home Times, they appeal to BMC and RTO to take urgent action.
