MULUNDKARS’ NIGHTMARE ON LBS MARG

Both commuters and citizens of Mulund are facing immense problems on Mulund’s much congested LBS Marg. On the one hand, motorists are annoyed by the traffic jam, while on the other hand the citizens are having nightmarish experiences due to the haphazard work of the Metro and BMC T-Ward.

It is true that the Metro 4 Project (Wadala to Thane to Kasarvadavali) is a boon for both Mulund and Thane residents but, tragically, the Metro work is posing great difficulties for the commuters. The plight of Mulund’s most crowded LBS Marg has turned to worst from worse. Commuters are thus irritated. To add to the woes, the road work (on both the sides of the road) by BMC T-Ward opposite Johnson and Johnson Company has been like the last nail in  the Mulundkar’s coffin.

A regular commuter on LBS Marg lamented, ” BMC T-Ward has dug up the road on both the sides near Johnson and Johnson Company and has occupied a large section by erecting iron barricades. Secondly, the barricades erected for the Metro work have almost eaten a major part of the road. Hence, it has become tiresome for both the motorists to commute and pedestrians to walk.” He added, “Right opposite Johnson and Johnson Company is a bus stop. But, due to the negligent work by T-Ward officials people are facing severe hardship to reach the bus stop.”

Rohit Utekar, a resident, told Home Times, “I agree that the Wadala to Thane to Kasarvadavali Metro will reduce the journey time and is a laudable work of the MMRDA. As this Metro will pass from Mulund, hence it will surely be a boon for Mulundkars, too. Thus, we have no grudge against the Metro work. Our only request is that both MMRDA and T-Ward should do their work carefully so that it does not cause inconvenience to the commuters.” He added, “Earlier, I used to travel between Bhandup and Check Naka within 20 or 25 minutes, but now this time has stretched to 40 to 45 minutes.”

Alpesh Mahadik, another disappointed commuter, said, “It is understood that due to the Metro and BMC work traffic would be affected but, if both MMRDA and BMC do their work with caution and regulations in place, showing empathy towards the commuters, then it would be great. Hence, it is our humble request that the government must carry out their ambitious development projects without causing hindrance to commuters and citizens.”
