MULUND’S PARKING LOTS LYING IN DARKNESS

On the one hand, the motorists in Mulund are fed up by the exorbitant traffic fines, while on the other hand they are in a fix to park their vehicles in parking lots as some of these are lying in darkness! According to reports, the parking lot at Vikas Plaza on J.N. Road in Mulund West is lying in the dark due to BMC not paying the electricity bills for the past one and half months. Motorists have made many complaints, but despite these complaints the BMC parking authorities have ignored the citizens’ woes! Hence, the motorists are in dilemma over parking.
In Mulund, the BMC has erected a four-storeyed parking lot at J.N. Road in Mulund West. The parking lot can accommodate 125 vehicles.

Any vehicle found parked outside the parking lot is immediately penalized. The agitated motorists claim that though BMC is quick to penalize the offenders, but inside the parking lot there are not many facilities. Kusumakar Rane, a resident, told Home Times, “The lights in the parking lot are lying defunct for the past many months, hence motorists have great difficulty to park their vehicles’. Further, due to non-functioning of these lights there are chances of accidents.”

When Home Times quizzed a BMC official posted at the parking lot, he said, “Daily 40 to 50 vehicles are parked in this parking lot. All kinds of vehicles ranging from two-wheelers to auto-rickshaws to cars are parked. The service is free and BMC is not charging a single rupee is charged for parking.”

On being quizzed further about the non-functional lighting, the official confided, “It is true that for the past one and half months the parking lot has no lighting as the MSEDCL officials have disconnected the power after BMC did not pay the electricity bills.”

Surprisingly, despite public outcry, the BMC has ignored the public’s woes. When Home Times quizzed BMC on this delay, they bluntly said, “Since the service is free, hence we have no funds!”
