NATION CELEBRATES DUSSHERA

On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the nation celebrated Vijayadashami or Dusshera with great enthusiasm and fervour. In Mulund, the effigy of the demon king, Ravana was burnt at many places. However, the burning of Ravan’s effigy at Mulund’s Malabar Hill was significant as angry depositors of PMC Bank expressed their rage as the effigy of traditional demons Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad were burnt. As the effigies went up in flames, the dejected depositors compared the mythological demons to the PMC Bank directors who had ruined their lives!!

It may be noted Dussehra is being celebrated continuously at Malabar Hills in Mulund (W) since the past 57 years. Like each year, the celebration was grand and populous. Thousands of Mulundkars had gathered to watch the burning of the effigies of the demon kings. The organisers had erected tall and gigantic effigies loaded with immense fireworks!

Eminent personalities present on the occasion were Charan Singh Sapra (ex-MLC). Also present were candidates contesting the upcoming Assembly Election like BJP candidate Mihir Kotecha (BJP) and Congress candidate Govind Singh. Both the politicians grabbed the golden opportunity to woo the voters.

The nine-day Navratri festival, too, ended with the celebration of Dusshera, the festival that signifies the triumph of good over evil. According to mythological lore Dussehra is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Ram over the demon king, Ravana. Besides, it is also believed that Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasur, hence the nine avatars of Goddess Durga are worshipped during Navaratri. Thereafter, the devotees immersed idols of Goddess Durga in ponds and lakes.
