Non-Functional Street Lights Start Functioning Again

Home Times has been single-handedly waging a war against non-operational street lights in Mulund. Readers may be aware that BMC had recently revamped street light electric bulbs with the new technology LED lights and had replaced ordinary bulbs with more than 2000 LEDs. However, despite BMC spending huge money on the purchase of these LEDs, Mulundkars complained that many street lights were damaged and had stopped functioning. Mulundkar argued the worst affected are the commuters on the road, particularly those who come home late after work. The situation was common in Mulund West and East.

Mulundkars protested that at night when the light are essential, most LEDs are not working. As a result, many streets and lanes in Mulund are plunged in darkness causing great hardship to the citizens.  Home Times thus took up this grave issue with Sarika Khobragade, Chief Engineer, MSEDCL and brought to light the severe grievances of Mulundkars. After Home Times’ endeavour, the street lights which were ‘non-functional’ have started functioning and people have expressed joy and thanked Home Times for its sense of commitment.
The plight of street lights on the fly-over connecting Mulund West and East which was pathetic has been improved. Residents complained that on some days the street lights are ‘on’ while some days they are ‘off’. The fly-over is a major road and many buses and cars travel on it. Hence, it was very essential to light them every day or else it could lead to a major accident during darkness,” a concerned senior citizen told Home Times. Soon, Home Times highlighted this grave issue MSEDCL was quick to light the street lights on the flyover.
Similarly, in Mulund West, near S.L. Road and Goshala Road, the street lights were operational on one side and non-functional on the other side. But, Home Times highlighted this issue, too, now street lights on both sides are functional.

Premchand Doshi,
a resident of Goshala Road told Home Times, “A few days back, some notorious hooligans looted a person taking advantage of the darkness in this area. But I must thank Home Times. After Home Times highlighted the street light issue in this area, the residents are living peacefully.”

When will MSEDCL solve this issue?
The situation on the main junctions and roads is worse even today because the High Mast lights installed by T-Ward are not functioning at many places in Mulund.

Secondly, lights in Sambhaji Garden at Mulund East are also inoperative. The garden has just one electric pole that keeps the garden illuminated.

Finally, residents of Tata Colony in Mulund East claim the moment Home Times highlighted the street light issue at Tata Colony, within two days the street lights became functional, but soon after these street lights were put off!
