‘Not For Sale” Medicines Sold!!!

In a recent raid, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has unearthed a major racket of pharmaceutical companies selling ‘Not for sale’ marked medicines earmarked for ESIS hospitals, Defence and government hospitals. FDA, in its raid found, that some tainted pharmaceutical companies cunningly erased the ‘Not for sale’ mark and boldly sold these medicines openly in the market! FDA has registered a criminal offence against these pharmaceutical companies. One of these tainted companies is a Mulund-based pharmaceutical company called Safe Life Enterprises Pvt Ltd.

After the exposure of this racket, FDA has started raiding several such pharmaceutical companies in Mumbai, Thane and Pune and have recovered such medicines worth Rs .40, 00,000/- In addition, FDA has filed FIR against 2 pharmaceutical companies in Mumbai and 1 in Raigad district.

According to reports, one of the undercover divisions of FDA got a tip-off that Nivas Pharmaceutical Company in Byculla was openly selling ‘Not for sale’ marked medicines allocated for ESIS Hospital, Defence and government hospitals by cleverly erasing the ‘Not For Sale’ mark.
During the raid at Nivas Pharmaceuticals, FDA learnt about Nivas pharmaceutical’s dealings with Mulund-based Safe Life Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. Hence, FDA raided Safe Life Enterprises Pvt. ltd. located at Minerva Industrial Estate and seized such medicines worth Rs. 2,88,000/- Among the medicines seized there were 440 packets of Glavas tablets and 408 strips of Januvia tablets.

FDA has filed an FIR against Dipesh Tarachand Gala and Dhruv Mehta, Directors of Safe Life Enterprises Pvt Ltd u/s IPC 420, 463, 465 and 34 and under Food Drugs and Cosmetics Act sections 65(17), 65(18)c 18a,n and 104 A.
