OCTROI NAKAS LYING ABANDONED

Two years back, in 2016, the government stopped the collection at Octroi Nakas due to the implementation of GST. Since the past 2 years, huge Octroi Naka space is lying vacant without constructive use. Social activists and concerned citizens are suggesting various ideas to utilize these empty spaces but, alas, BMC is in a dilemma and taking no decision.

However, yet again, there is a demand to utilize these vacant spaces. Citizens are asking about the amount allocated in the Annual Budget for these vacant spaces. However, BMC is silent hence Mulundkars are now demanding beautification of these abandoned spaces.

Mulund resident Preetesh told Home Times, “Since the abandoned Octroi Naka space on EEH at Anand Nagar is lying neglected for many years, hence it must be used beneficially for the welfare of citizens. I think, since the place is close to Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mulund hence it would be wise to beautify the area so that many people would visit and this would give a separate identity to Mulund”

He added, “The entry gates near the Octroi Nakas in Mulund East and West have their distinctive identities. Hence, if they are beautified, it would surely boost tourist attraction.”

On the other hand, the corporators have suggested making a parking space for heavy vehicles as it would generate revenue for the BMC. In addition, there are also demands by the Housing Development Division to acquire the land and construct economical houses for the middle class.”

In a nutshell, even after 2 years, confusion continues over utilizing the abandoned Octroi Nakas space!! It is, indeed, shameful!!!
