P.K. ROAD WOES…. NO END IN SIGHT???

Mulund: Increasing traffic jams and the growing illegal encroachments by anti-socials on the footpaths have made life of people living at P.K. Road miserable. Residents of the locality complain their health is unnecessarily being compromised due to such menace.

Traffic Problem
Due to Metro 4 work being started at LBS Marg, motorists prefer to travel via P.K. Road. As a result, the traffic on this road has increased manifold, causing a serpentine queue of vehicles stranded one behind the other.  Constant honking and release of toxic gases from the vehicles are causing both sound and air pollution. The residents in the vicinity of P.K. Road have developed many ailments and their health is gradually deteriorating.

Due to heavy traffic jam issue, vehicles keep honking and remain stranded for long hours. Further, due to illegal parking on both sides of the road makes the road narrower for vehicular traffic. This poses a bigger challenge to smoother traffic flow. In addition, gases emitting from vehicles cause breathing problems and other health hazards. Vivek Jha, a motorist moaned, “Due to excessive air pollution, we are suffering from multiple health problems like irritation of eyes, cough, breathing problems, etc.”

Street light sproblem
Residents complain that P.K. Road is a prominent road of Mulund having the prestigious Kalidas Hall but still the road has street light problems. Yogesh Yadav, a resident, lamented to Home Times, “Some of the street lights are so dim that it is impossible to walk on the footpath. Moreover, the street lights between Pooja Blood Bank and Smt. Vidyaben D. Gardi High School are non-functional. As a result, in the evening, the entire path lies in complete darkness. Hence, it is quite frightening to walk on the road.”

Footpaths encroached
The footpaths, too, at P.K. Road are in a pitiable state and are encroached by vendors. A senior citizen grieved, “The footpaths are in a dismal state with broken paver blocks and haphazard placement of tiles. Secondly, from P.K. Road to Saidham, the footpaths are encroached by illegal stalls giving no space for pedestrians to walk.”

“MSEDCL is in the process of doing the renovation of street lights.  In the first phase, street lights have been renovated at all the important and prominent roads of Mulund. In the second phase, we would be doing the renovation of the street lights at P.K. Road. From Saidham to Moksh Mahal we are going to erect 4 electric poles.
As regards the street lights between Pooja Blood Bank and Smt. Vidyaben D. Gardi High School, let me inform you that first trees will be trimmed on the stretch till Gardi School and then renovation of street lights will be carried out.”
