Rs. 25 Lacs New Ultrasound Machine Gathering Dust!!

Mulund’s civil hospital, M.T. Agrawal Hospital is always in the news for the wrong reasons. Now, in a shocking disclosure, it has been revealed that the expensive ultrasound machine purchased at Rs. 25 lakhs is lying unused in the hospital! Sources inform the brand new ultrasound machine is gathering dust in the hospital as junk because it could not be inaugurated at the hands of a celebrity!!! Outrageous, indeed!!

What’s worse, despite having an ultrasound machine, the poor patients are referred to the civil hospital at Sion or asked to get the ultrasound done at private labs. As a result, the patients are angry as most of the patients visiting the civil hospital are from the underprivileged sections of the society and cannot afford to pay the exorbitant rates at private labs. An angry Mulundkar lamented, “We come to the civil hospital to get economical treatment and the hospital refers us to a private hospital to do an expensive test! It is absolutely absurd and unjust!”

According to reports, the M.T. Agrarwal hospital had purchased a new ultrasound machine in November 2017 for its patients. The machine was bought at a whopping price of Rs. 25 lacs but, surprisingly, instead of installing and using the machine for public welfare, the hospital administration dumped the vital machine in a corner where it is lying abandoned since past 2 years!

Due to this, patients not only have to travel a long distance to Sion or KEM hospital to get the ultrasound test done, but also spend extra money. The worst affected are pregnant women or patients with serious illnesses. But, alas, BMC is least bothered about the poor pregnant ladies’ woes or the pains of senior citizens suffering from diseases like enlarged prostate and kidney problems that require ultrasound tests!!
