The NGO started this initiative from Mulund West Police station. Though a ‘Safe Water’ ATM has been installed even at Navghar Police station in Mulund East, it is yet to be inaugurated.

The service is free to all Mulundkars. Policemen, as well as anybody who is thirsty, can quench his thirst with hygienic and purified water at this ATM installed at the police station. Both, policemen and Mulundkars are permitted to take water home as per their desire. People can take 300 ml. of water to half litre to 1 litre the maximum limit is 20 litres. This water is not only purified, but it’s also cold.

A member of the Minaxi Mehta Welfare Foundation told Home Times, “With increasing pollution, even the city’s water is being polluted. As a result, people are falling sick and suffering from various diseases. To guard their health, people are using purifiers at home and drinking cool and clean water.”

He moaned, “But, it is a tragedy that our policemen who work round-the-clock and maintain security, do not have excess to hygienic and purified water. In fact, the health of the policemen is most vital. Hence, to give them clean and cool water, our organization has decided to install ‘Safe Water’ ATMs at all the police stations in the suburbs of Mumbai.”
