Segregate plastic personally before dumping!

The Maharashtra government had implemented a ban on plastic after nullahs and gutters were found to be clogged with plastic leading to a flood-like situation in Mumbai. Initially, when the civic body had implemented the plastic ban, they had appointed special squads to keep a check on the use of plastic. Even a heavy penalty was charged on violation of the plastic ban. The overall result was that people were terrified and even the hawkers had stopped using plastic bags. But, alas, the ban failed in its mission.

According to the BMC Solid Waste Management (SWM) the disposal of things made of plastic materials is not a tough job, but segregating the thin plastic bags, mineral water bottles and plastic pouches bags have become a major  challenge. The only solution against this plastic junk is that Mumbaikars would have to extend a helping hand in separating thin plastic bags, mineral water bottles and plastic pouches from the garbage.

In an earnest appeal, Home Times urges Mulundkars to stop throwing plastic bags and pouches on the road. This not only harms the environment, but during the recent incessant rain, the flood that made life miserable for Mulundkars was primarily due to plastic clogging the drains, nullahs and gutters of Mulund.

Remember,an array of festivals is  round the corner and it is generally observed the organizers of public mandals use plastic pouches to distribute ‘prasad’ on a large scale. Thus, kindly stop the use of plastic. Kindly discard mineral water, plastic bags or any material made of plastic. In case, there is plastic in your house then kindly segregate all plastic and donate it to any charitable organization or to any re-cycling unit that re-cycles the plastic and does not dump in the environment to pollute it.

Your one step can not only save us from environmental pollution and floods, but will be boon for the coming generation.
