Soon, Mulund Rly Station To Get Pay-N-Park Facility!

Ever since BMC has started imposing the new illegal parking rule, life has become difficult for motorists and two-wheel riders in Mumbai. On the one hand, the BMC officials have appointed private agencies to keep a vigil on errant vehicle owners, whereas on the other hand, the RTO officials are acting tough. Hence, Mumbaikars are in a dilemma over parking space. In Mulund, too, the situation is the same. However, to pull out Mumbaikars from the dilemma, Central Railway (CR) has stepped in to solve their parking woes.

According to reports, the Central Railway has decided to lend a helping hand and solve the city’s parking problem. CR, in its latest initiative, has proposed to provide Pay-and-Park spaces for commuters near its railway station premises. Besides Mulund, CR has given a green signal to start Pay-and-Park spaces at other railway stations like Bhandup, Kopar, Kalyan, Dombivli; Byculla (East), Panvel, Thakurli, etc. Overall, CR has announced to open up Pay-and-Park spaces at 59 railway stations across Mumbai and Thane.

It may be noted that CR has started the work of Pay-n-Park on a war footing at Mulund station. It is expected to be opened for commuters soon. Meanwhile, commuters at Mulund station are being provided free parking facility.

Mulundkars are delighted by the CR announcement of starting a new Pay-and-Park space near Mulund station. A regular commuter from Mulund who resides at Mulund colony and does up and down by bike said, “I am very happy as it will solve the parking problem of several commuters. Ever since residential areas in Mulund have developed at remote places from the railway station many commuters use personal vehicles to commute from the station to their residence. It is not only economical but also saves time but we faced parking problems. Now that CR is starting Pay-n-Park facility, it will solve our woes.”

Another two-wheeler owner from Mulund, appreciating the CR’s Pay –n-Park initiative, said, “Though BMC T-Ward has opened all the parking Pay-n-Park lots in Mulund, but the major hurdle is that there is insufficient space for two-wheelers. Hence, we are forced to park on the roads but with CR Pay-n-Park lots, the parking problem will be solved.”

In 2018, CR had earned a good profit of Rs 4.36 crore by opening Pay-n-Park zones near the railway stations. Encouraged by the profit, along with a mission to solve the problem of growing traffic menace in the city, CR has approved 59 railway stations to have Pay-n-Park facility near station premises. Interestingly, 47 railway stations have even started the Pay-n-Park service. “These parking lots will increase in the coming months which would surely come as a solace for Mumbaikars,” said a CR official.
