STREET PLAYS TO AWAKEN PEOPLE TO VOTE

Mulund: In tune with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Information and the appeals of the Election Commission of India to create awareness among the people to vote, a theatre group in Mumbai is conducting street plays at various railway stations on Central Railway and urging citizens to vote!

The theatre group, Hamari Biradari Group, Mumbai, is staging street plays highlighting the importance of voting so that Mumbaikars move out from the comfort of their houses on April 29, (Monday) and exercise their fundamental right to vote! The group is conducting such inspiring plays at Mulund, Bhandup, Nahur and other railway stations to attract maximum crowds and urges them to vote!!

Sumit Sawant, a part of Hamari Biradari Group, Mumbai, told Home Times, “The reason behind conducting these street plays is that we have seen that most people in Mumbai prefer to relax at home or dine at hotels or watch movies at cinema halls on voting day!! There is no civic sense for voting. Hence, to awaken them and infuse true patriotism for the country, we perform plays that motivate them to vote.”

He informed, “Since we get maximum people at railway station platforms we prefer performing there. Besides focusing on the importance of voting, our group is also educating the masses about the EVM machines and how to use the EVM machines. We are also informing people about cVIGIL App launched by the Election Commission of India to lodge a complaint related to any crime during election. In addition, we are also informing about PWD application to help handicapped people to cast their vote. All these things are explained in an entertaining style through a skit!”

He added, “We are getting a good response from the public. We are conducting such plays everywhere. These plays are held at railway platforms, local train compartments, during rallies, in slums and near co-housing societies to educate maximum people to cast their votes. We also try to answer queries of people related to election and voting.”
