Two separate fire accidents in Mulund within 24 hours!
Instances of fire accidents continue to cripple Mumbai. According to reports, in the last decade there have been over 49,000 incidents of fire in Mumbai. The year 2018 was the worst year with the maximum fire accidents. In fact, Mulund too witnessed many fire incidents in 2018 and this year also there is no stop to fire accidents. According to latest reports, within 24 hours Mulund witnessed 2 incidents of fire accidents. The fire accidents caused huge damage to wealth and property, though no casualty was reported.
In the first instance, a fire broke out at Sheetal Chhaya Apartments in Mulund West on Sunday at 7 pm. The fire erupted on the top floor due to a short circuit in the meter box. Soon, the fire brigade reached the spot and evacuated the residents before the fire could engulf the entire building. Fortunately, the fire brigade controlled the fire in time or else a major calamity would have occurred as adjacent to the building is an hospital. Had the fire spread to the hospital building things would have been disastrous.
In the second instance, on Monday after around 1.30 p.m., a fire broke out in a food delivery shop located on the Mulund Goregaon Link Road opposite D-Mart. Once again, short-circuit caused the fire. The fire was so furious that all the material in the shop was charred to ashes. The fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control, but by then huge damage was done to the property.
According to the fire brigade officer, the reason behind fire could be a short circuit or a gas leak in the kitchen. Two gas cylinders were also recovered from the kitchen. People who witnessed the accident, said, “A major calamity could have occured because the shop is on the main road and is thronged by several thousand commuters. Had the gas cylinders exploded in the blaze, it could have created havoc! It is unfortunate despite BMC inspections shopkeepers continue to disobey the fire safety norms and pay a heavy price in fire accidents!”
