Veena Nagar Public Parking Zone Inauguration Delayed Again??

Mulundkars had expressed joy after Home Times had published the news of the opening of new Civic Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar in Mulund West on December 10, 2018! BMC had promised to start the Public Parking Zone free for Mulundkars for 3 months taking into consideration the Metro Work at LBS Marg. However, regretfully, all joy has been reduced to zero as BMC has postponed the inauguration of the Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar citing a ridiculous reason of insufficient staff!

Traffic jam is a mounting problem in Mulund and Bhandup. The prime reason behind the growing traffic problem is the haphazard and illegal parking of bikes and autorickshaws on the roads. Further, the Metro work at LBS Marg has added to the woes of motorists. A Mulundkar lamented over the growing traffic mess. He said, “Earlier, from Check Naka to Kanjur Marg, it took 30 minutes to travel in a vehicle. However, with the increase in the number of vehicles on this stretch, this time rose to 50 minutes. But now, ever since the Metro work has started on the LBS Marg, the travelling time for the same distance has escalated to a whopping 1 hour 30 minutes!!!”

To avoid the traffic mess, BMC T-Ward had made many Public Parking Zones, out of which the BMC Public Parking Zone at Subhash Nagar in Nahur Village was started after much persistence by Home Times. The newspaper fought tooth and nail and made much hue and cry to begin the Public Parking Zone made ready by BMC but lying abandoned despite the urgent need of Mulundkars. Hence, convinced by Home Times ‘ appeal and the success of the BMC Public Parking Zone at Subhash Nagar in Nahur Village, BMC had announced to inaugurate another civic Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar in Mulund West on December 10, 2018. But, tragically, it has dropped the idea at the last moment!!!

When Home Times contacted BMC T-Ward to investigate the reason behind this decision, an official, on anonymity, said, ” BMC does not have adequate staff to provide service for 3 months, hence we are now planning to hire a contractor and hand him the responsibility.”
No contractor interested.

In the absence of adequate staff to handle the operation of Public Parking Zone at Veena Nagar, T-Ward had invited offers to appoint a contractor. However, T-Ward claims till now no contractor has shown interest in running the Public Parking Zone. Hence, Mulundkars have to keep their fingers crossed and pray BMC gets a contractor soon!!!
