Veer Savarkar Road in Darkness Since Past 3 Months!

The stretches from Nahur to Bhandup’s Hema Park located on Veer Savarkar Marg to the roads opposite V.K.Krishna Menon College in Bhandup have become a major concern as most of the street lights are either switched off or lying defunct. Due to the black-out, these roads have become a nightmare for motorists and residents for the past three months!!!

Residents have complained to Home Times that for the past three months the street lights are non-functional, yet the concerned administration has turned a deaf ear to the residents’ woes.  A resident said, “Due to non-functional street lights, the entire stretch seems scary after sunset. People, particularly those who come home late at night, are worst affected.”

A lady said, “For the ladies, the dark streets become more ghastly because, besidndes the threat of being robbed, their modesty is also at risk. Whenever I am late, I take each step in constant fear of danger lurking aro some corner. The roads are so dark that after 8 pm only our mobile torch light guides our path or sometimes headlights of vehicles show direction.”

Another lady studying at Menon College said, “The road to Menon College passes near a nullah. A few months back, a dead body was found inside the nullah. Hence, at night, the nullah becomes a death-trap for pedestrians, particularly people under intoxication.”

Residents told Home Times, “In the past three months we have written several letters to the MSEDCL, but in vain. It seems the MSEDCL will awaken only when a major tragedy would occur!”
