Venomous Snake Trapped In ‘Rat Kill’ Glue!

A tiny venomous snake was caught literally in a ‘sticky situation’ when it got accidentally trapped in a ‘Rat Kill’ glue! Fortunately, the snake was saved in the nick of time from a lingering death by an animal activist NGO RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare).

Outside big markets and malls it is commonly observed that grain retailers place ‘Rat Kill’ glue to deter rats from devouring the grains.

However, in Mulund, instead of a rat, a poor tiny snake got mistakenly trapped in the ‘Rat Kill’ glue. Fortunately, the snake was sighted by a market officer and he instantly called the RAWW team. Acting upon the rescue call, RAWW Team members Joaquim Naik and Omsi Para reached the spot and immediately detached the snake from the glue. Later, they washed off all the glue stuck to its skin and sent the snake to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Emergency Animal Care Centre at Thane.

Informing Home Times, Pawan Sharma, Founder of RAWW said, “The presence of a snake at a market place is nothing amazing during monsoons. The snake was identified as Russell’s Viper, a venomous species of snake. It was a juvenile snake i.e. a few months old baby snake. The entire snake had been trapped in the glue. Only its tail was left out. Had we not been informed in time the little snake would have died.”

Sharing information about the rescue of the snake, Sharma said, “After its rescue, we rushed the snake in a critical condition to the SPCA Emergency Animal Care Centre at Thane. Dr. Priti Sathe, a veterinary officer, treated the snake and kept it under her observation for 10 hours. After complete check-up and recovery of the snake, it was handed to the Mumbai Forest Department and released in its natural habitat.”
