Voter Turnout Graph Dips in Mulund; 5,000 Voters Press NOTA!

Mulund is regarded as a cosmopolitan suburb with a large section of the educated population. But, alas, despite knowing the importance of voting, Mulundkars disappointed with a poor voter turnout on Monday, October 21, 2019!  As compared to the Lok Sabha Election in 2014, Mulund witnessed a 10% decline in voting. To add insult to injury, more than 5,000 voters pressed the NOTA button to express their rage against the ruling government and the growing inflation and unemployment!

According to the information shared by the Election Commission, Mulund Office, Mulund witnessed an overall 53.20% voting which is comparatively 10% less to the Lok Sabha Election which witnessed 63.64% voting. Interestingly, a contrasting picture of voting turnout was visible in Bhandup. During this Assembly Polls, Bhandup witnessed a voter turnout of 56.93% a little higher than Mulund, while Bhandup displayed a poor voter turnout during last the Lok Sabha Election.

The Election Commission Office in Mulund was expecting a great voter turnout as an addition 5,000 voters had been added to the list. Unfortunately, due to the PMC Bank scam, many annoyed depositors expressed their anger by pressing the NOTA button. Secondly, the other reason for the decline in voter turnout was the three days’ weekend holidays before the polling date. Hence, many people preferred mauj-masti over their sense of duty!

Thus, on the polling day, one could just witness the presence of election officers and the policemen gazing randomly at the empty polling booths!
