Water Pipeline still leaking! Mulund Rly claims welder not available!!

The Government of India is making slogans like ‘Save Water’ or ‘Water is life’ to hammer the importance of water in our water-deficient country! However, at Mulund station, for the past one year, tons of precious water are being wasted as the water pipeline supplying water to Mulund railway station premises has been leaking since long. When Home Times confronted the railway authorities, the railway officials tried to shy away from the problem citing an absurd reply that ‘Welder is not available’ to repair the water pipeline!

Agitated at the laxity and reckless attitude of the Mulund Railway officials an irritated passenger, Chhatrapal Singh Rajpurohit, told Home Times, “It is ridiculous that the Railway authorities are not getting a welder to mend the leaking water pipeline at Mulund railway station! It is nothing but sheer negligence and apathy of the railway administration!!

It may be noted, Home Times had highlighted wastage of water three weeks ago in its issue dated 06th-12th July highlighted the crisis in the story titled – ‘WHAT A WASTE!!! 1,000 liters of wasted at Mulund Station daily!!’ Shamefully, to save face the Mulund Railway authorities, instead of mending the leakage portion of the dilapidated water pipeline, just tied the leaking portion of the pipe by a jute rope. Mulundkars are disappointed and angry at the indifference of Mulund Railway authorities towards saving water as still water continues to waste!!!

Concerned Mulundkars, who have been repeatedly complaining about the leaking water pipeline to both, the railway authorities and the BMC, were delighted when Home Times had carried a report to highlight the wastage of water at Mulund station. However, the same people are now dejected at the apathetic attitude of the railway because, despite the publication of the news, the Railways have not learnt any lesson. Instead of suitably repairing the leakage problem, the Railway authorities have done superficial work to deceive the inspecting officials.

A Mulundkar lamented, “The Railway authorities have done half-hearted work. They have just bandaged the leaking portion by tying a thick sack but it is useless as water is still being wasted.”

When Home Times asked Railway Engineer about the administration’s indifference to such a grave issue, he tried to escape by giving an absurd reply. He said, “We are unable to find a welder. As soon as we get a welder, we will repair the water pipeline!!” It’s been three weeks now and still the railway authorities have not found a welder!!!

Mulund Railway has still not paid Rs 9 crore water bill and yet wasting water!!
What is most disturbing is that Mulund Railway station has a pending water bill of Rs 9 crore which the Railway officials have still not paid to the BMC!!! Despite not paying the whopping water bill, the careless railway officials have given the leakage a Nelson’ Eye!!

This exposes the height of negligent of the railway authority regarding the importance of water!
