WATERY ISSUE!!

Since past 15 years Water Pipeline at Guru Govind Singh Marg in A Mess! Repaired 10 to 12 times in a single year!!

Mulund: It is, indeed, ironical that, on the one hand, while Mumbaikars are fuming over consistent water-cuts in the city, on the other hand, there are many places in Mumbai where the water pipelines are defunct or in a pitiable state, causing immense wastage of water. In Mulund, the water pipeline at Guru Govind Singh Marg is in a pathetic state since the past 15 years!!! It has burst several times and each time it has wasted precious drinking water in huge quantities.

What is most appalling is that in a single year in 2018, the water pipeline has been repaired as many as 10 to 12 times. But, despite mending, it keeps bursting and wasting valuable drinking water!!! What is more painful is that despite people complaining multiple times, the lax BMC Water Department has given a deaf ear to this ‘grave’ issue!

A local resident, Mangala Mandare, told Home Times, “We have made several complaints to BMC Water Department, but BMC has never paid serious attention to this vital issue. After complaints, BMC workers do visit but they are not sincere in their work. Hence, due to the inferior job, the pipeline keeps bursting time and again and this causes immense leakage of water.”

She added, “Due to leakage of water, the road develops potholes and the potholes are filled with water. These potholes pose problems to pedestrians and the motorists. Recently, an autorickshaw driver fractured his hand as his auto lost balance and overturned due to the pothole.”  “If BMC does its work with honesty and uses superior quality material, then this water pipeline can be repaired permanently. But, alas, BMC is never serious in its services. It feels sad to inform that in one year the BMC staff has repaired the water pipeline as many as 10 to 12 times!!! But, despite this, the pipeline keeps bursting!!! Why doesn’t the BMC do a quality job and finish the issue?” wonders Mangala.
The injured auto driver Bashir Shahabuddin Nagarji told Home Times, “The road has become a curse due to multiple potholes and water leaking from the water pipeline. Due to the slippery road, many accidents happen on this road.” Informing about his accident he said, “Five months back, I was driving on this road when my rickshaw turned upside down due to a huge pothole. My hand was fractured and for many months I had to sit home without work.”

Water pipeline bursts due to public demand to increase water pressure
Assistant Engineer, Water Department BMC T- Ward, denies the allegation of BMC’s inefficient job. Defending BMC, he said, “It is wrong to allege that BMC is not taking the job seriously. We repair the water pipeline sincerely, but the problem is that people in this area demand to increase the pressure of water. As per public demand, we have to increase the water pressure and increased water pressure leads to water leakage.

Secondly, as the drainage line passes near the primary water pipeline, hence it is quite a challenging job to rectify the water pipeline. Nevertheless, if the people or the residents have any problems, then I can send workers to mend the water pipeline again.”
