When will Man understand the signals of Nature?

It is November 8, yet the monsoon continues to wet Mumbai. In the history of Mumbai, this metropolitan city has never witnessed rain in October or November. And, what’s more, Mumbai has also never witnessed such an unpredictable changing climate as it has begun to witness in recent times. Further, for the first time, perhaps the country witnessed such horrifying floods in several states of India. Mumbai itself witnessed severe rainfall and, for the first time, Mumbai was brought to a standstill four times during the monsoon season due to incessant rains! Earlier, Mumbai came to a halt once or twice but this time the monsoon broke all records!!

Ever wondered why Mumbai or, for that matter, India has witnessed such vicious wrath of Nature? Well, it is not the miscalculations of the Almighty, but it is man’s greed that has shattered the eco-system of this world and given birth to the horror of global warming. It may be noted global warming is the result of human activities like an increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere mainly due to human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas for energy or cutting down and burning forests to create pastures and plantations, etc. Besides air pollutions, water pollution and land pollution are also the evil deeds of man!!

Today, man is paying for his evil deeds. Interestingly, despite Nature giving alarms, man is blindfolded. The unseasonal rain in Mumbai, the 2015 floods in Chennai and, last but not the least, the country’s worst natural disaster in 2013 at Uttarakhand that caused horrifying floods and landslides are all signals of Nature to man to stop his greed and stop messing with the laws of Nature. However, it is a tragedy despite Nature’s warning, man continues to unleash terror over natural resources. In his wanton greed for prosperous living, man has forgotten that he is digging his own grave and faces a bleak future for the coming generation.

Today, there has been a rapid growth in the burning of fossil fuels due to the increase in demand for cars and bikes. The scenario is such that almost every youth is seen driving bikes and cars, hence the level of air pollution has increased. The excessive use of petrol and diesel is the key villain in air pollution. Further, people have lost the healthy habit of walking. Today, forget senior citizens, even teenage students going to schools need autos/ taxis to ferry them to schools. Secondly, the Metro work in Mumbai is another reason that has made the air polluted. Also, Diwali fireworks are one reason for air pollution.

Home Times thus urges citizens that it is high time we change or the future would be more daunting and difficult to live. Today, at least with a mask, people can move out; lets us not pollute the Earth so much that it becomes difficult to even move out!!
