For God’s Sake, Keep Mulund Clean!!

Each year, the BMC spends crores of rupees on monsoon preparedness but, alas, soon after the first heavy showers the inferior quality work of the BMC is exposed! What is most agonizing is that due to unclean gutters and nullahs, the city is polluted during flooding. This flooding result in water-logging, gutter water entering into several homes in Mumbai and its suburbs, puddles formed all around Mumbai. These puddles and accumulated water become the breeding spots of mosquitoes and other microorganisms which, in turn, spread many lethal monsoon diseases like dengue, malaria, typhoid, etc.

For better governance of the city, the city of Mumbai has been divided into 7 zones, each consisting of 3 to 5 Wards named alphabetically. There are 24 wards in all. The monsoon preparedness program includes several duties of the civic employees that consist of fogging of insecticides and pesticides in every corner of the city. To make this process effective, BMC also uses fumigation machines. Besides, it is the role of BMC employees to visit each Ward and interact with citizens, conduct sensitization workshops and explain to the residents on how to avoid mosquito breeding in the buildings and keep their surroundings clean. Creating awareness programs and keeping the drains, nullahs and gutters clean during monsoon is the chief duty of BMC but, alas, the BMC employees are lazy. They do not do their duty sincerely.  As a result, we, the citizens have to pay for it.

Recently, the negligence of the BMC was exposed in Mulund T-Ward as many buildings were found to have the deadly Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breeding in their surroundings!! But, surprisingly, BMC T-Ward conducted fogging and investigation only after a Mulund youth succumbed to dengue!! People are wondering : Why does BMC awaken after the death of a person or an accident? Why doesn’t BMC do its duty sincerely and honestly?

Secondly, Home Times urges Mulundkars to kindly co-operate with BMC employees and do not create hurdles in their job! Remember, both BMC and citizens will have to work in harmony to keep Mulund clean.
